Established in 1984, Helen Keller Intl Tanzania works in partnership with the Ministry of Health,
Community Development, Gender, Elderly and Children (MoHCDGEC), Prime Minister’s Office
(PMO), Local Government Authorities (LGAs), local NGOs, and other national and international
development partners in the areas of nutrition and neglected tropical diseases (NTDs), particularly
trachoma elimination.
Scope of the Internship:
Helen Keller International Tanzania is seeking to recruit a Finance & Administrative Intern to support the Finance and Operations department. The Finance Intern will be responsible for assisting with finance activities, reviewing and processing office payments and vendor transactions, and ensuring that finance documents are properly documented. The intern will be provided with ample learning opportunities to strengthen their skills, foster career growth, and build their CV.
Position Title: Intern – Finance and Administrative.
Department: Finance and Operations Department
Duty Station: Dar es Salaam
No. of position: One (1)
Reports to: Finance & Operation Associate
Duration: 6 months
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the supervision of Finance and Operations Coordinator the intern will be responsible for:
• Assist in reviewing all payment requests and disbursements of funds
• Ensure that purchasing and procurement is done as per procurement procedures and meet donor specific requirements
• Filing and monthly scanning of financial documents
• Process payments to the vendors after formal check of vendor’s eligibility with procurement team
• Process staff advance requests and manage the day-to-day operations of the Office petty cash
• Provide support to the Finance department to ensure staff account balances are reconciled on a monthly basis
• Ensure all payments have adequate supporting documents and that all necessary authorization has been obtained for all payments
• Ensure all Finance related documents are filed in a logical manner and coordinate retrieval
of physical or soft copy as requested.
• Assist in internal and external audits by preparing necessary documents.
• Ensure adherence to financial regulations and company policies.
• Help review and verify financial records.
• Support tax filing preparations and compliance reporting.
• Help prepare documentation for regulatory submissions.
• Enter financial data into accounting systems or spreadsheets.
• Organize and maintain financial documents and records.
• Ensure compliance with company policies and regulations.
• Provide administrative support to the finance team.
• Assist in scheduling meetings, preparing reports, and responding to inquiries.
• Support month end close process and perform any other duties allocated by the supervisor(s)
• Perform other financial and administrative duties as requested by the Finance and Operations Manager and/or the Country Director
Desired Qualifications and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
• Able to demonstrate good planning and administrative skills
• Computer literate with proven skills using Microsoft Excel spreadsheets and Word
• Knowledge and understanding of accounting principles and procedures
• Possess strong critical thinking, problem solving, and analytical skills
• Good communication and interpersonal skills
• Self-motivated and able to work under pressure
• Team player and strong work ethic
