Job Description
Founded in 1933 at the request of Albert Einstein, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) responds to serious humanitarian crises around the world and helps victims to survive and rebuild their lives.

For over half a century, Tanzania has been a country of asylum, hosting one of the largest refugee populations in Africa. Currently, the country hosts approximately 287,903 Burundian and Congolese refugees, many of whom arrived in 2015 as the crisis in Burundi increased. To date, refugees continue to co-exist with the host communities in Kigoma region expressing multiple reasons and needs. Within this context, IRC provides protection and basic assistance in the areas of Safety (comprises of Protection and Rule of Law, Women Protection and Empowerment, and Child Protection), Health (mental health and psychosocial support services and reproductive health), and Education.

Job Overview:
The ASRH Officer will lead efforts to enhance adolescents' reproductive health knowledge within schools. This position focuses on conducting awareness sessions on reproductive health topics such as body changes during puberty, personal hygiene, STI prevention, and essential life skills. The role is designed specifically for candidates with experience in working with adolescents in school settings.

Major Responsibilities.
  • Adolescent Reproductive Health Awareness Plan and conduct informative sessions on reproductive health for adolescents in schools and other community settings.
  • Address key topics such as body changes during puberty, STI prevention, personal hygiene, and healthy decision-making.
  • Use engaging and age-appropriate methods to deliver information, ensuring active participation from the adolescents.
  • School-based Life Skills Training Equip adolescents with essential life skills, including communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving to build resilience and support healthy relationships.
  • Create and maintain a positive learning environment that encourages openness and trust among adolescents.
  • Community Engagement and Support Work with teachers and local community leaders to build a supportive network for adolescents' well-being.
  • Promote ongoing dialogue between schools and parents to foster a holistic approach to adolescent reproductive health.
  • Program Monitoring and Reporting Maintain accurate records of activities, including attendance, topics covered, and participant feedback.
  • Assist in the evaluation of program effectiveness by tracking key performance indicators related to adolescent health outcomes.

Key Working Relationships:
  • Position Reports to: Head Nurse.
  • Position directly supervises: ASRH Incentive Workers.
  • Other Internal and/or external contacts: Teachers, and school administrators.

Qualifications
Educational Requirements:
  • Diploma in a health-related field with a background in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH).
  • Experience: Minimum three years’ work experience working with adolescents in school settings, particularly in reproductive health education.
  • Demonstrated Skills and Competencies. Strong communication and facilitation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate adolescents.
Language/Travel.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and Swahili, Kirundi/French is an added advantage.

Working Environment: Security level yellow - The situation in most of the country is calm. Some parts of Kigoma region experience insecurity-highway banditry.
