The Opportunity
Are you passionate about making a global impact through media engagement? Plan International is seeking a dynamic and proactive Global Media Officer to become a vital part of our fast-paced media team. In this role, you'll work at the forefront of global media, driving our presence across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. Your expertise in news judgment will be crucial in reacting strategically to international events, while your creativity and initiative will help secure coverage that positions Plan International as the leading voice on children’s rights and equality for girls. About you

Location: This role will ideally be based in the UK (remote/hybrid), employed from the Global Hub for Plan International which is based in Woking, Surrey however other locations where Plan International has an office* that can employ on behalf of the Global Hub and you have the pre-existing right to work and live may be considered.
Type of Role: Permanent or maximum fixed term contract as per employing office’s standard terms and conditions.
Grade: We will be happy to disclose the salary and applicable benefits to applicants as part of this process, however, please kindly note that the salary and employment benefits will be set according to your location and therefore it is not possible to include full details here.
As an indication if this role was based in the UK the salary would be circa £34,000 per annum, depending on experience

About you
- Proven experience working in a busy news/media organisation or in a PR/media relations team
- Excellent verbal and writing skills in English, with the ability to produce punchy news copy and to adapt writing style to meet the needs of different audiences and media outlets
- Proven success at developing and placing media stories – from identifying an idea, to collating the relevant information and assets and securing high quality coverage
- Ability to build productive relationships with journalists, and to creatively and tenaciously pitch stories to the media
- Use of a media monitoring platform such as Vuelio or similar
- Strong knowledge of global media outlets, their ways of working, audiences and requirements
- Ability to work quickly and flexibly under pressure, and motivating and supporting colleagues to do the same
- Ability to persuade, lobby and influence peers and colleagues and form productive relationships and contacts
- Experience of tailoring communications to different audiences and channels, including media, social media and digital
- An understanding of ethical storytelling and how safeguarding applies to media and communications work
- Experience interviewing and working with programme participants in a sensitive way, that honours the principle of “do no harm”
- Strong understanding of humanitarian and development issues and rights-based work
- Ability to work independently and on own initiative, with the strong organisational skills to manage a wide and varied workload
- Ability to work enthusiastically as part of a team, and to form collaborative working relationships both internally and externally
