The key purpose of this job is to maintain, service, repair and optimize the efficiency of vehicles/equipment as per Vehicle/Equipment manufacturer and AB In Bev standards. Ensuring the availability of fleet is within agreed ABI standards while keeping in line the safety procedures and maintenance cost flexed budget. Ensure inventory control on spares and items in line with inventory control standards.

Key roles and responsibilities
  • Ensure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition
  • Ensure vehicle maintained are compliant to Regional Trade Bloc (e.g. EAC) Road Traffic Act, Local Road Traffic Act and OEM Manuals/Work Instructions
  • Provide guidance and coaching to drivers and operators on safe/economic driving of vehicles
  • Implement and use DPO/VPO procedures and practices in Fleet operations
  • Carry out vehicle/equipment service timely as per weekly service schedule as defined by DPO Fleet Pillar & VPO Maintenance Pillar practices
  • Perform diagnostics, preventative maintenance, and repairs (mechanical, auto electric, welding) on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment to include tune-ups, overhauling engines, transmissions, differentials, clutches, brakes, drive trains, generators, computer-controlled fuel injection and emission related equipment, carburetors, air conditioning, electrical, cooling, suspension, pumps, hydraulic systems, and steering
  • Operate automotive (Vehicles/Equipment) and general workshop equipment including pressing machine, specialized tools kits, grinding machine, torque wrench, wheel jack, safety stands and any other tools or CPE (Collective Protective Equipment)
  • Operate equipment and drive company vehicles, trucks and equipment as required; tests and/or regularly operates vehicles and equipment; transports vehicles
  • Report general condition of vehicles/equipment and complete all relevant inspection and service documentation fully and accurately with sufficient detail and in a timely manner
  • Report any driver reportable defects which have been identified as part of the inspection / servicing process which have not been identified by the driver
  • Contribute on inputs to orders for parts for vehicles/equipment; inspects parts for accuracy and condition; timely GRN of orders; and assist in the maintenance and security of parts storage facilities
  • Forecast necessary materials, spares, and equipment to complete assignments
  • Conduct Inventory Count and ensure Inventory Controls in line with guidelines and policy
  • Performs service/breakdown road calls, and willing to work flexible times, holidays, and weekends
  • Undertake required 5S standards in fleet working area
  • Work within a realistic time and ensuring safety while wearing required PPEs
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems on vehicles using test equipment (e.g star machine) and hand tools to locate the cause of breakdown and correct the fault
  • Identify problems or potential problems in all vehicles through daily inspection
  • Identifies root cause of failures/conditions and perform repairs as required
  • Demonstrate how to follow the most logical and cost-effective approach to resolve the problem as per the relevant procedures
  • Performs other duties as assigned by line manager or their representative

Profile:
  • Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Auto Electric/Mechanic or Vocational Training (e.g. VETA) qualification in Auto mechanics or related field. Form IV Secondary education
  • Valid driving license
  • Preferably 2-3 years working experience
  • Strong background and knowledge of fundamentals of electrical and mechanical systems in vehicles/equipment
  • Servicing and performing preventive maintenance and repair for a variety of fleet Vehicles
  • Ability to diagnose electrical malfunctions within automotive systems and repairing a wide variety of vehicles and equipment
  • Using hand and power tools skillfully and safely
  • Reading and interpreting truck/fleet manuals, specifications, and drawings
  • Ability to diagnose electrical and mechanical malfunctions within automotive systems
  • Ability to install electrical and mechanical systems in trucks
  • Ability to perform engine and gearbox overhauls and replacement of major truck parts
  • Ability to work in a changing environment
  • Self-motivate & attention to detail
  • Analytical skills & complex problem solving
  • Must be safety conscious, to avoid unnecessary accidents
