Group Infrastructure Engineer
Helios Towers is a leading independent telecommunications infrastructure company, having established one of the most extensive tower portfolios across Africa. It builds, owns and operates telecom passive infrastructure, providing services to mobile network operators. Helios Towers currently operates in 8 markets in Africa and Oman in the Middle East.
Overview
Working within the IT Infrastructure team, the Infrastructure Engineer will provide technical support for Helios Towers’ global on-premise and cloud environments across a broad range of infrastructure technologies, maintaining strong working relationships with internal IT staff, business stakeholders and third-party service providers.
Time will be divided across all aspects of IT delivery, including projects, operations and support.
The individual will be proactive in developing and maintaining their technical awareness, researching industry developments, and where appropriate will be making recommendations for improvement. They will represent Helios as a technical authority in their specialist fields to ensure the performance and availability of Group IT services and global business connectivity.

Role Responsibilities:
As an Infrastructure Engineer, you will be responsible for:
- Supporting the deployment and configuration of on-premise, Azure and AWS services and resources.
- Ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of internal and cloud-based infrastructure.
- Establishing and maintaining monitoring solutions for proactive identification and resolution of infrastructure issues.
- Responding to incidents promptly; troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure-related problems
- Implementing security best practices across all environments.
- Ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations related to IT infrastructure.
- Creating and maintaining comprehensive documentation for infrastructure configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Acting as an escalation point to provide support and assistance to the business, including technical support, incident and problem management.
- Supporting for internal tools and in-house business applications and solutions.
- Taking ownership and facilitate the progress of specified IT problems, driving them to a conclusion.
- Part of a rota providing “business as usual” support, as well as out of hours escalation for priority incidents.

Requirements for the Role
To succeed in the role, you will be/will have:
- Microsoft Windows Server 2016, 2019, 2022
- VMWare ESX and vSphere, including VSAN environments
- Exchange Online/Office 365
- Desktop deployment, administration and support
- Cloud and endpoint security – Microsoft Defender, AWS Cloud Security, Crowdstrike, Trend
- Microsoft Active Directory/Entra administration, including group policy management
- Security best practices - Patching and vulnerability management, modern user authentication methods, least privilege and role-based access models.
Desired Skills
- Experience with Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Enterprise endpoint administration (SCCM, Intune)
- Mail security solutions (Mimecast, EOP)
- Automation and scripting, including PowerShell
- Cisco networking & security (routers, switching, Umbrella Secure Internet Gateway)
- Network infrastructure services (DHCP, DNS, NPS etc.)
- Enterprise level backup – Arcserve, Veeam or similar
- Infrastructure and security monitoring – PRTG, ManageEngine OpManager, Microsoft Sentinel
- Citrix administration
