Responsibilities
  • Responsible and accountable for Safety and security of the people, property and assets of North Mara Gold Mine and contribute to the continuity of mine production activities with enforced strong plans and adherence to procedures.
  • Manage the security of all employees and contractors living and working at North Mara mine site.
  • Provide advice to Security Manager regarding current security crime trends within Tanzania and forecast future threats through a sound risk assessment process.
  • Execution of duties by yourself and subordinates in keeping with various Corporate Policies, Mine Standing Instructions, Departmental Operating Procedures
  • Vigilance to the Departmental Performance Matrix used to assess operational effectiveness. Making all possible endeavors to ensure that on a Shift-by-Shift basis all activities align with successful Matrix trending.
  • All employees under your command to be trained, brought up to and maintained to a high standard with regards to all Security Policies and Procedures
  • Procedures reviewed with recommendations to procedure updates on an annual basis or as required
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are educated and are aware of Company security procedures, Company security policies and standards and best practice for working safely in their specific areas of employment.
  • Ensure that all positions and posts are rotated on a regular basis.
  • Ensure the mine operates within the confines of existing legislation applying within Tanzania.
  • Manage and be accountable for the security of mine product, process and property.
  • Ensure that all employees and contractors are educated and are aware of Company security procedures, Company security policies and standards and best practice for working safely in their specific areas of employment.
  • Ensure that Barrick and Corporate safety objectives are met and management receives appropriate information to achieve those objectives.
  • Represent company in meetings with government (Police / Justice Dept & Corrective Services), other resource companies and stakeholders.
  • Ensure that all emergencies and contingencies likely to effect the security and safety of Placer’s operation in Tanzania are foreseen, considered and appropriate response formulated to reduce risk to the operation and its employees.

Qualification requirements
  • Higher qualification/Degree in related field.
  • Qualification in Security operations and protection of assets.
  • Mines Health and Safety Act Awareness.

  • 10 Years leadership and management in a position of responsibility with demonstrated ability to achieve good results/outcomes.
  • Five years project management experience including surveillance projects.
  • Experienced in crime investigation and asset protection best practices.
  • Competent in functional systems used in the organisation.
  • Strong practical understanding of surveillance equipment capabilities
  • Demonstrated leadership ability.

About the Team

The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.

North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
