The Barrick Africa Middle East Team is seeking to recruit a Geotechnical Technician to join and grow our team.

Responsibilities
- To work under the direction of the Geotechnical Engineer to ensure the interests of the Company are upheld.
- Daily inspections of active underground headings and stopes
- Daily pit, dump, sump inspections and reporting
- Geotechnical core logging of diamond drill cores & updating of the geotechnical database.
- Geotechnical mapping of underground development headings and open pit exposed batter faces and data processing
- Supervising scaling in the open pit mines to make sure it’s properly done and all berm crests are adequately protected
- Ensure adherence to geotechnical standard operating procedures and all relevant company procedures.
- Conduct pre-stoping inspections for input into the stope note process.
- Installation of ground movement monitoring systems and recording of instrumentation data
- Ground support designs
- Pastefill designs and pastefill QAQC (testwork)
- Open pit pre-blast and post-blast assessments & supervision of all geotechnical drilling activities
- Laser scanning, tracking the seismic and slope stability radar data trends and maintaining the rock noise database.
- Ensure all tracking sheets and inspection reports are shared on daily/weekly basis.
- Assisting in routine short term geotechnical numerical model analysis for ground conditions and slope stability assessments
- Assisting the Geotechnical Engineer with monthly underground dilution database updates
- Assisting the Geotechnical Engineer with monthly and quarterly (development, stope, cable bolt and slope stability) performance review reports
- Weekly updates of the Geotechnical Section Work Plan
- Maintaining adequate stocks of ground support consumables on site
- QAQC of installed ground support units (pull testing and extensometer data monitoring)
- Promote health and safety in the workplace.
- Compliance with all statutory regulations and procedures
- Compliance with all the Company’s Policies and Procedures
- Upward reporting as required.
Qualification requirements
- Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering / Geology / Civil Engineering or equivalent

Experience and competencies needed
- Minimum 1 year experience in an underground/open pit mining environment
- Must have a valid Tanzania driving license and able to drive a light vehicle in underground environment.
- Knowledge of any relevant geotechnical or mining design software will be an added advantage.
- Deliver accurate logging and mapping data for all open pit and underground projects.
- Deliver concise and accurate daily inspection reports for the open pit, dumps, sumps, active stopes and development headings.
- Provide accurate monitoring data from installed ground movement monitoring instrumentation.
- Provide accurate ground support and pastefill designs.
- Daily update on the pit slope performance status through available monitoring instrumentation
- Update all tracking sheets and relevant geotechnical databases.

About the Team
The North Mara gold mine is located in north-west Tanzania in the Tarime district of the Mara region. It is around 100 kilometres east of Lake Victoria and 20 kilometres south of the Kenyan border.
North Mara started commercial production in 2002. The mine is a combined open pit and underground operation from two deposits, Gokona (underground) and Nyabirama (open pit). The process plant has the capacity to process an average of 8,000 tonnes of ore per day.
