Position: Principal

Context:
The Institute of Environment, Climate and Development Sustainability (IECDS) is a Tanzanian professional Research and training Institute. It specializes in Environment and Climate Change and is registered and accredited by the National Council for Technical and Vocational Education and Training (NACTVET), REG/ANE/031, as a full–fledged training Institute to undertake Training, Research, Projects and Consultancy.
IECDS is the only Tanzanian training Institute in Eastern Africa accredited to UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Secretariat, Bonn Germany, and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Secretariat, Geneva Switzerland with the global recognition in the environment and climate change training. IECDS is a member of the Global Network of High–Level Training and Research Institutions with its headquarters at the Centre for Natural Resources and Development (CNRD) in Cologne, Germany. The Institute is also accredited by Green Climate Fund (GCF) as a technical observer organization.
IECDS is dedicated to working with the global community in addressing the increasing climate change and environmental challenges, through collaborative research, training, capacity–building support, policy advice, innovative and contemporary training opportunities, and networking for sustainable development.

The Institute is inviting applications from suitably qualified professionals to fill the position of the Principal which is currently Vacant.
Education and Qualifications
- Holder of a Bachelor degree of at least lower second and a Master’s Degree in an area of Environmental Education, Environmental Management, or related fields from any University recognized by the Tanzania Commission for Universities.
- Have a higher academic standing with credentials eligible for categorization as chief Tutor II or Chief Tutor I for technical institutions offering NTA level 6 and below
- Be a person with outstanding academic, research and administrative experience in the area of technical education and training in the related fields and preferably be eligible for registration/registered as a technical teacher.
Knowledge, Skills & Ability
- An educationalist who understands how to recognize and develop quality teaching and learning.
- S/he must have knowledge of strategies to tackle underperformance in different contexts and at all levels through monitoring and evaluation and support talent identification and enhancement
- Principles and practices of quality assurance systems including institutional self-evaluation and performance management.
- Clear understanding of the importance of appropriate communication with students, clients, service providers, partners, supporters, parents, senior management, and the Board.
- To be proactive, and versatile, with a high level of drive, energy, enthusiasm, resilience, and a sense of perspective.
- Ability to demonstrate commitment, reliability and integrity.
- To be solution focused and have proven sound decision-making skills.
Experience
- Previous experience of minimum 3 years of teaching including being member of the senior management staff or similar undertaking of any academic institution.
Salary, Remunerations and other benefits
- Highly competitive salary, within the private sector salary scale approved by the government.
- Frequent paid travels on duty within and outside the country; paid leave; and other benefits.
- The salary and all other benefits will be negotiated and concluded based on the required qualifications.
