This position is only open to candidates living in the Africa region.
This career specialist provides high-quality data collection at the national office level for all child focused data with a focus on new countries/subregions in Africa. She or he provides in-depth monitoring and evaluation expertise regarding program data to conduct analysis, identify trends, formulate reports, and make recommendations based on findings. The specialist further provides highly competent expertise in data collection, measurement, and analysis of program strategies, outputs, and outcomes.
Further, this specialist may advise leaders at the National or Regional Office, as well as Global Leaders, on these subjects and related technical issues. At this career level, the incumbent supports the local program design, performing independently or participating as a team member for major, or complex issues, including monitoring and evaluation for all programs funded by child support, grants, interventions, or otherwise. He or she may coach or oversee the work of other specialists.
Responsibilities
- Acts as an advocate for children. Understands and advances Christ's mandate to protect children. Raises awareness of the needs of children and takes active steps to help protect against neglect, abuse, and exploitation of children. Promotes the dignity, respect, positive treatment, potential of children in all circumstances. Encourages the involvement of others in helping children in need. Reports and appropriately supports responses to incidents of harm of children if they occur.
- Supports overall holistic child development and provides ongoing subject matter expertise in collecting, advising on the collection of, and using high quality data to measure program inputs, outputs, and outcomes. Aids partnership facilitators, program support team and church partners, by providing coaching and knowledge within monitoring and evaluation. May provide technical advice on monitoring and evaluation to national office, regional, and global staff. Growing depth and breadth of knowledge in field of expertise educates others regarding industry standards, national policies and best practices.
- Develops national or global level tools and instruments for use throughout the monitoring function that enable the program team to conduct empirical assessment to keep track of progress through generation of monitoring and evaluation reports. Analyzes high quality baseline/needs assessment data to inform program design.
- Serves as a subject matter expert regarding partner compliance and adherence to national or global standards, procedures, and policies related to program quality, especially data collection of child, church, and intervention focused data.
- Collaborates with partnership facilitators, national, regional, or global program support team members and leaders, to provide insight and expertise regarding intervention milestones realization, financial report status, child development milestone monitoring, partner maturity progress and such other programmatic aspects. This leads to the realization of partnership outcomes or to realization of global outcomes in line with Compassion's theory of change.
- Monitors all child focused dashboards to track critical program dimensions and performance and enables the National Office to see meaningful improvements or decline in performance. Conducts complex analysis and interpretation of dashboard metrics movement and makes recommendations to the partnership facilitator, program support, and the National Office Leadership Team as needed.
- Budgeting and plans for all data collections and other monitoring and evaluation activities in the National Office and/or Africa/Asia region. This includes leading training for Frontline Church Partner staff, Partnership Facilitators, or external data collectors on high quality data collection.
- Drawing on field experience and exposure, may advise program managers, field office staff, and leadership concerning relevant programmatic issues when requested and contribute to or lead multi-departmental project, creative thinking, and analysis teams.
- May coach and provide expertise to other professionals and support staff in the monitoring and evaluation discipline.

- Accountable for supporting, upholding, and engaging in Compassion's core "Cultural Behaviors" in all internal and external communication and relationships.
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in International Development, Evaluation, Economics, Psychology, Public Health, Epidemiology, Social Science or related discipline.
Work Experience
- Seven years experience working in this or similar position or field.
- International work experience required.
- Strongly preferred: experience with data analysis tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Stata and/or R.
