Founded in 1956, The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a humanitarian, non-governmental, non-profit organization providing direct assistance to conflict-affected populations – refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs) and host communities – in more than 40 countries around the world. DRC has been implementing emergency response projects in Tanzania since the onset of the Burundi refugee crisis in 2015 in three refugee camps in the Kigoma Region at the border with Burundi. DRC’s integrated projects for refugees, asylum seekers and host communities comprise sectors such as Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM), Protection, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Shelter and infrastructure, General Food Distribution (GFD) and Livelihoods.

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection officer will be responsible for coordinating nutrition services to people with specific needs through proper assessment of specific nutrition needs and ensuring linkage with health and nutrition mandated organizations for continued nutrition support. The protection officer will work in close collaboration with protection assistants and with supervision of Integrated protection team leader.
Overall purpose of the role:
Provision of adaptive communication materials and strengthening the access to adaptive information to persons with communication challenges and staff, incentive workers and partner staff in Nduta and Nyarugusu camp.
Main Responsibilities:
Program Responsibilities
• Provision of adaptive communication materials.
• strengthening the access to adaptive information to persons with communication challenges and staff, incentive workers.
• Translating during community engagement meeting including town hall, ceremonies and other camp visit that involve the community participation.
• Provision of education capacity building (preschool) to children with speech, sight and hearing impairments
• Preparation, translation of IEC materials to sign language
• Provide training of sign language to care giver of people with communication challenges.
• Provide translation when needed to make the easy communication between people with communication challenges and service providers.
• Conducting assessment of POCs in need of adaptive communication materials.
• Provide weekly/ monthly report and the progress of the program to team leader.
• Conducting capacity building with care givers taking care of people with communication challenge
• Conduct other duties assigned by team leader.
• Data collection and reporting
• Proper documentation of progress of the people with communication challenges.
• Make sure that the students attending preschool are well documented and the report is submitted to intregrated team leader.
• Make sure that data policy is highly repected following DRC protocal on data sharing.
• Program management
• Ensure efficient and effective communication among people with communication challenges and their care giver.
• Lead the translation of IEC materials to sign language.
• Make sure that the need assessment of people with communication challenges is conducted and well communicated for proper addressing of their concerns.

Logistics Duties
• Take care of equipment’s and supplies for the job
• Ensure working equipment’s are in good condition and replenish/repairs when out of order
• Reports immediately any security incidence/issue detected in the DRC premises

Qualifications and Experience
Essential Experience
• Must have minimum of 2 years’ experience communication on sign language.
• Empathetic, patient and well organized especially communication to people with communication challenges.
• Excellent in critical-thinking to accurately assess students' attending preschool on sign language their progress and adjust lessons based on their needs.
• In addition, a person with good communication skills including communicating with caregivers (older people) parents, other teachers, administrators and children under their supervision
• Innovative and abilities to conceive of different ways of reaching people with communication challenges and guiding them to progress field experience in emergency context is highly desirable.
• Cultural sensitivity, and commitment and understanding of the values of DRC. Good communication skills.
