Mission and objectives
UNESCO in Tanzania was established in 1974 and is recognized for the central role played in providing material and moral support to the liberation movements which led to the struggle for independence in Southern Africa. UNESCO Dar es Salaam is a National Office in the East African Region that works in collaboration with the Government, Civil Society, Private Sector and development partners within the UN Delivering as One framework with other UN Agencies to develop and strengthen policies and programmes with the aim to further the building of peace, poverty eradication, sustainable development and intercultural dialogue through education, the sciences, culture, communication and information.

Task description
Under the direct supervision of Under the overall authority of the UNESCO Dar es Salaam Officer in Charge, and the guidance and direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist, the incumbent assists in the effective and efficient coordination of the UNPRPD Project, through a range of actions contributing to the design, planning, and management and monitoring of project activities. The Project Assistant applies and promotes the principles of results-based management (RBM), as well as a client-oriented approach consistent with UNESCO rules and regulations. The UN Volunteer will undertake the following tasks: 1)Assist in the implementation of the UNPRPD project under the direct supervision of the Education Programme Specialist. 2)Proactively contribute to day-to-day project implementation and ensure conformity to expected results and project work plans, including planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities. 3)Make pertinent logistical arrangements for the prompt and effective implementation of the project activities. 4)Assure that project expenditures are in compliance with approved project budgets and follow up for the timely submission of required project reports by contractors. 5)Assist in the preparation and logistical planning of various events – e.g. meetings, workshops, conferences, seminars, etc. including the preparation of minutes. This includes the preparation of background materials on assigned projects for use in discussion, presentations, meetings, and briefing sessions. 6)Maintain records on all project personnel/national consultants and their respective status (contracts, ToRs, time and attendance – if appropriate, etc.) in accordance with accepted policies and procedures. 7)Recording project inputs, maintaining financial data on regular program activities and budgets, and preparing information for future planning and budgeting.

Required experience
  • 3 years of experience in verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience using computers for a variety of tasks.
  • Competency in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Knowledge of file management, transcription, and other administrative procedures.
  • Ability to work on tight deadlines

The position is based in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania. Dar es Salaam is a cosmopolitan city and is considered one of the fastest cities in the world. It has all the essential amenities which one can expect in such a place. There is plenty of options when it comes to accommodation, essential commodities, recreational facilities, and good health care facilities in the city. The city is covered by a good bus rapid transit system and private taxies services such as Uber and Bolt.
