In order to promote inclusivity and the participation of persons with disabilities in UN programme activities including various programmes and events to be organized by the different UN agencies and consultations with stakeholders (the government, Development Partners, UN agencies, Civil Society, Academia/Research Institutes, Private Sector and Media), UN Tanzania seeks the services of Sign Language Interpreter to provide sign language interpretation in those programmes, events and at the consultations involving persons with hearing impairment.

Their conditions of service will be governed by their contract and the General Conditions of Contracts for the Services of Consultants and Individual Contractors. Consultants and individual contractors are responsible for determining their tax liabilities and for the payment of any taxes and/or duties, in accordance with local or other applicable laws.
The selected candidate is solely responsible to ensure that the visa (applicable) and health insurance required to perform the duties of the contract are valid for the entire period of the contract. The candidate may also be subject to inoculation (vaccination) requirements, including against SARS-CoV-2 (Covid).

- Facilitate the 1mobilization and participation of Persons with Disabilities in various UN programmes and events
- Assist UN partners to ensure persons with hearing impairment attend the consultation.
- Provide sign language interpretation services during the online consultation
- Assist persons with disabilities to engage and participate in the consultation by providing sign language interpretation and interpreting feedback from persons with disabilities.
The Consultant is expected to provide the following specific tangible deliverables:
- Effective participation of persons with disabilities at UN programmes and events.
- Effective feedback from persons with disabilities.
To qualify as an advocate for every child you will have…
- Minimum of National Certificate of Education or Diploma or at least 4 years’ experience in sign language interpretation.
- Proven previous experience in sign language interpretation
- Excellent sign language interpretation skills are required
- Previous experience with a multilateral or international organization is helpful but not mandatory
- Minimum three client references that include the name of the contact person, title, contact information and brief description of the job provided.
- English, Swahili and Sign Language required
- The company should have female sign interpreters
