The Kiswahili National Council (BAKITA) is a Public Institution
under the Ministry cultural guarantee. The Council was formed by an Act
of Parliament No. 27 of 1967 and its amendment. According to this Act
the Council is the Government Agency with the authority to overseeing
and coordinating the activities of all stakeholders promoting Kiswahili
in the Republic of Union of Tanzania. In addition, the Council is an
important stakeholder in the development of Kiswahili internationally.
