Programme Officer for Tanzania
Would you like to help us in promoting independent journalism in Tanzania?
International Media Support supports local independent media and media advocacy groups in countries affected by conflict, political transition and authoritarian rule. Set up in 2001, the organisation has since then worked with hundreds of local and international partners to support independent journalism, freedom of expression and the safety of journalists.

In the Africa region, we work with partners to further the safety of journalists, promote freedom of expression and media reform, build institutions, and develop media content.

IMS is currently implementing a programme with six partners in Tanzania. The programme’s core objective is to contribute to the creation of an enabling environment for journalists and public interest media in Tanzania. It works towards ensuring that civil society organisations (CSOs) and the media sector are better supported, strengthened and safeguarded to effectively fulfil their roles in contributing to the promotion of fundamental freedoms, democracy and human rights.

Job Summary
As the Programme Officer, you will contribute to the design, planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the IMS programme in Tanzania.
You will work directly with IMS’ partners and consultants in Tanzania as well as colleagues at IMS headquarters to realise programme results.

  • Planning and implementation of IMS programme in Tanzania
  • Oversight, management and support of IMS partners in Tanzania
  • Reporting and donor relations
  • Communication and visibility
  • Administration and office operations

Qualifications
  • Relevant degree from University
  • Experience in programme design, administration, monitoring and evaluation or related field.
  • Fluency in spoken English and good command of written English is required. Knowledge of the local working language of the duty station is necessary.
  • Experience in community outreach, media development and development communications.
  • Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications, especially MS-Office applications and utilities.
  • Ability to perform a variety of specialized tasks related to Results Management, including support to design, planning and implementation of programme, managing data, reporting.

Duration and Location

Expected length of employment: 12 months (pending donor approval) (with possibility of extension)
place of employment: Tanzania
Employment type: full time position
Start date: 1st May 2022

Organization

You will on a daily basis report to Tanzania Programme Manager, work closely with the Programme Advisor, and liaise frequently with IMS' Finance and Resources Department, the Communication Unit and other cross cutting units when needed.
