Position: Bilingual English and Swahili Reporter - Africa East TV Deployments

Increasingly we are a digital first service – honing video, digital, mobile and social content for our audiences. The BBC World Service remains the leading international broadcaster in Africa, reaching a weekly audience of more than 100 million across all platforms and Social Media. BBC Africa aims to make, explain and connect African and global stories by providing a unique insight into the main stories of the day in original formats.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Journalist with strong reporting experience to join our team in Tanzania. Fluency in English and Swahili is essential.

Role Responsibility
Your role as Reporter is to provide timely, expert and authoritative coverage of news and current affairs events in Tanzania and the surrounding region for TV, Radio and online in English and Swahili. You will have an excellent network of contacts and access to news-makers and be able to supply material in fluent broadcast-standard English. We expect you to report on news and current affairs in a timely, engaging manner which is suitable for our target audience. You will have to travel to other locations at short notice and be prepared to report on breaking news.
The Ideal Candidate
The successful candidate will be a fluent English and Swahili speaker and writer, with a strong journalistic and reporting background. You must have a thorough knowledge of Tanzanian affairs together with an understanding of East African and international affairs. You will have a strong broadcasting voice and a track record of accuracy and impartiality. Experience of reporting in the field on issues in the target region is important.
