Its main responsibilities are: –
- Protecting the safety of citizens and their property.
- Maintain and rehabilitate prisoners.
- Facilitate and manage the immigration and entry of citizens and foreigners.
- Managing Fire and Rescue issues.
- Providing services to refugees in the country
- Managing the Community Service Program.
- Creating and managing a People’s Identification and Registration System and issuing National IDs to citizens and visitors aged 18 and on.

Ministry structure:
According to the Framework adopted in 2013, the Ministry of Interior is made up of departments, with the following units:
- Department of Police (Police Force);

- Fire and Rescue Department (Fire and Rescue Service);
- National Identification Authority (NIDA);
- Department of Probation and Community Services;

- Department of Policy and Planning;
- Supply Chain Management Department;
- Finance and Accounting Unit;
- Internal Audit Unit;
- Government Communication Unit;
- Information and Communication Technology Unit.
