Job Description
To
apply you must hold appropriate citizenship or documents already
permitting you to reside and work in the country. We are unable to
provide visa/permit assistance.
We are looking for a fun, vibrant
team player to assist in the coordination of our Moshi education and
gender empowerment projects. You need to be great with people from all
walks from life, really organized and have a lot of energy. We are
looking for someone to start in February 2020.Your team of volunteers
will be diverse with a range of nationalities, ages and backgrounds. You
will be responsible for maintaining a positive vibe, helping them make
the most out of their experience with us in Africa, from both a work and
leisure perspective.
Overall Responsibilities
You will
be responsible for coordinating and developing some of our Moshi
education and gender empowerment projects. You will live in our
volunteer house and be responsible in making sure our international
volunteers are comfortable in their accommodations and enjoying their
volunteer experience. You will need to balance your time between
managing relationships, planning activities, actively seeking new
partnerships to expand the programme, encouraging and supporting
volunteers and reviewing the projects and proposing changes based on
feedback.
Detailed Responsibilities
Planning – ensuring people and projects are prepared in advance:
· Liaise with incoming international volunteers and help set expectations
·
Manage travel and accommodation logistics including airport
pick-up and drop-offs, room arrangements and volunteer meal coordination
·
Work in partnership with the Project Manager to understand the
needs of the community and to ensure activities are right for the
communities and for volunteers
· Prepare curriculums and update curriculum boards for projects
·
Help volunteers prepare for activities through the project
induction; brief volunteers on project practices and give overview of
projects
· Guide and work with volunteers to plan, execute and review activities
· Work with project partners and ensure communication is clear for project start/end dates and curriculums to be delivered
Recommended:
Doing – day to day project involvement and reporting
· Supervise volunteers by offering expertise and guidance, ensure they have an understanding of their projects and are prepared for their lessons
· Work with the Project Manager on each volunteer’s project placements
· Ensure any recording of data (e.g. Number of students, number of products sold etc.) is completed by volunteers or community members
· Organise and communicate daily activities for volunteers based on the weekly schedule
· Help answer volunteers’ questions and resolve any issues that come up on project or in the volunteer house
· Arrange and attend social activities for volunteers some evenings
· Spend time to get to know and show an interest in all the volunteers
· Be a role model for volunteers and community members in all of your actions and behaviour
· Build relationships with our community partners and work to develop new opportunities/relationships with the community
· Conduct baselines and other Monitoring and Evaluation tools
· Ensure volunteers are adhering to our Code of Conduct and working within the framework of our Child Protection Policy
· Track and keep proof (receipts) for all expenditures
· Responsible for project resources and equipment - i.e. having enough of the right kind of resources, working with other staff to plan ahead to ensure we have the right equipment for projects
Reviewing – continuous improvement of project
· Continuously discuss project ideas/improvements with volunteers
· Gather feedback from volunteers, project partners and community members on what’s going well and not going so well on the projects
· Work with Project Manager to improve projects and respond to and integrate feedback from volunteers
· Write reports concerning weekly project activities, achievements and concerns
· Respond to emails from head office staff, volunteers and project partners
Our Foundation
· Deliver presentations about the charity
· Coordinate in-house fundraisers
· Support our foundation team by actively promoting our foundation to volunteers and work with them on fundraising opportunities
· Inform volunteers on how they can be better global citizens when they return home
· Inform volunteers on how projects fit into wider community needs
Other tasks as and when required by manager, as appropriate. Due to the ever-changing environment in which we work, the role will evolve over time. Flexibility is key.
Read Also:
Skills and Experience
· Must be over 21 and hold a university degree
· Previous teaching/TEFL experience highly desirable
· Previous Experience of working in the volunteer/community development sector
· A team player who’s interested in people, coaching and supporting volunteers
· Self-motivated, flexible, independent, adaptable
· Love of socialising with different types of people and mixed ages
· The ability to respect and work with different cultures
· A positive attitude and the ability to think on your feet
· Passionate about African Impact and sustainable development
· Fluency in English
· Strong communication skills – both written and verbal
Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
