The company is a subsidiary of AngloGold Ashanti, an international gold producer headquartered in South Africa, with operations in more than ten countries, in four continents. The mine is situated in the Lake Victoria Gold fields of North Western Tanzania, only about 85 km’s from Mwanza City and 20 km’s South East of the nearest point of Lake Victoria. Position: Community Engagement Superintendent
Job Number: GGM-2020-XND-02.

Qualifications: First Degree with post qualifications in Social Sciences, Strategic Engagement or related subjects.
Experience: At least 5 years of relevant experiences in stakeholders engagement and social performance management particularly in the mining industry or closely related fields of operation.

Purpose of the Role:
To lead the Local Community Engagement section for Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML) by ensuring effective engagement for stakeholder relations to maintain social license to operate for GGML and AngloGold Ashanti

Main or Key Accountabilities:
Community Relations
• Developing and implementing a comprehensive Community Engagement Strategy which secures the long-term good will of the community
• In Consultation with the Socio-economic development section leader, facilitate Planning, organizing, directing and evaluating the Community Sustainable Development (CSD) programs; including participation in community relations forums
• Communicating Company goals, objectives and projects to the Local Authority and Communities and advising the Senior Manager of any changes/developments in the Community expectations
• Playing a key role in Local Government and Community based committees and other community groups to ensure that GGM’s interests are represented and protected
• Promoting a favorable public image of company through a comprehensive stakeholder’s engagement program with host community, local government and non-governmental organizations in Geita.
• Playing a leading role in representing the Company at public events such Council meetings, and other significant events/forums at District and community levels
• Collaborating with the Government Authorities on promoting community safety through co-sponsorship of education campaigns such as the annual Road Safety Week
• Advising the Senior Manager on Company donations/sponsorships to eligible institutions/groups as per donations policy
• In Consultation with the Socio-economic development section leader, advise the Senior Community Affairs & Projects and Social Investment Committee on proper identification of sustainable community development projects in key sectors of development such as health, education, infrastructure, water, livelihoods projects and relevant others.
• In collaboration with other Sustainability functions namely communications, environment, socio-economic development, land access, safety as well as other departments site wide, ensure continuous profiling and communication of company’s operational and social investment plans with a view of obtaining stakeholder buy-inn, meaningful participation and ownership.

• Master’s degree in or combination of Communications, Public Relations, Business, Journalism, or other related field ‘r Professional Certification in PR & Communications

Experience:

Ten (10) or more years of experience in public relations and communication, preferably in the mining industry or a related field

Purpose of the Role:

The role holder is responsible for developing and implementing public relations and communications strategies that support the business objectives of AngloGold Ashanti Geita Gold Mining Limited (GGML). The candidate will be required to communicate extensively on engagements by the mine, with a key priority to Sustainability, operations and mine wide projects. The PR & Communications Manager’s role is required to strengthen the mine’s reputation with internal and external stakeholders at local, regional and national level; supporting and contributing to the GGML’s Communications strategy; as well as at Regional and Group level. The role will contribute to company-wide internal and external engagement and reputational management activities; Manage the GGML’s brand in alignment with the AGA’s Group Brand Management Strategy; Develop Content for the mainstream and Social Media and perform other duties as assigned.

Main or Key Accountabilities:
• Develop a communication strategy, plans and key messages that support the mine’s business objectives;
• Conduct audience research on employees and other key external stakeholders including host communities to determine areas where there are opportunities and challenges to build good relations that help to strengthen the AngloGold Ashanti brand;
• Develop communication materials to help front line supervisors communicate changes in policies, the organization, corporate strategy, etc. to employees in a timely manner;
• Be a liaison to the Vice President Sustainability and a Strategic Business Partners with other senior leaders for all messaging, copy, and content in their respective channels and organizations;
• Liaise with teams and the organization on crisis management including crises or incidents that occur outside of the mine site that need to be communicated to employees;
• Review provide input and align the look and feel, and content provided for the corporate office;
• Adhere to the company brand and reputation matters. Act as the first point of contact and Brand Ambassador for GGML. Manage and promote the company’s brand presence internally and externally;
• Support corporate branding initiatives, culture development, internal communication, and partner with community relations to share internal wins publicly;
• Develop publications including newsletters, press releases, internal briefs, intranet (SharePoint) management, video and other special projects;
• Develop content for digital marketing i.e. Social media and website management networking websites
• Ensure team members are aware of and comply with applicable statutory acts and regulations, Industry codes of conduct and Company Policies.
• Be a key point of liaison between the Company and media houses at local and national levels

Communications

• Support the Vice President Sustainability in driving special mega media coverage of strategic events and partnership including the Kilimanjaro Climb Challenge against HIV/AIDS which is the most important PR event for GGM at national level

Land Access & Tenements

• Developing, implementing and monitor programmes for securing GGML land and tenement rights to ensure GGM complies with the international standards and any applicable legislations
• Actively managing land access, compensation and resettlement programs in compliance to laws of the united republic and by aligning to AngloGold Ashanti’s relevant policies, standard and procedures and other international best practices.
• Consulting with the Vice President: Sustainability and all departments, government agencies both at local and national level on land access needs or problems, determining scope of requirements and making recommendations for regulatory and social license-based solutions
• Develop and Implement a Comprehensive Strategy for Engagement, Management and Support of Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners (ASM) in accordance with the relevant AngloGold Ashanti’s Policies and procedures and by aligning to existing and prospective Government programs for ASM.

Role Boundaries and Authorities
• The Senior Community & Projects Manager will have accountability for the effective use of people, resources, and assets associated with, area of operation Contractors, Suppliers and Projects.
• The specific boundary limits in each area will be defined by agreement and in conjunction with the Vice President Sustainability and the Managing Director
• Variances to assigned resources i.e. total budget dollars and total budgeted headcount must be reviewed prior to committing additional resources.
• Any system change with a potential material impact the area of accountability must be reviewed with the Vice President: Sustainability and the Managing Director and the collateral team prior to implementation to minimize unintended consequences.
• Organizational structure changes such as adding or removing roles and changes to role design at the immediate subordinate level can only be carried out with the concurrence of the Vice President: Sustainability, as well as the Managing Director in his capacity as the MoR.
• Any breaches to the Code of Conduct and ethics must be reported to the VP Sustainability and the MD. (Gift and Hospitality process must be followed).
