Position Summary
The “Health Impact Assessments for Engaging Natural Resource Extraction
Projects for Sustainable Development” (HIA4SD) project, which is under
the Environmental Health and Ecological Sciences (EHES) Department at
IHI, conducts research – complemented by a strong capacity building
component – to facilitate a policy dialogue for strengthening the
application of impact assessments as a regulatory mechanism for mining
projects in Tanzania, and to promote sustainable development in Africa.

project team to assist with supervising and conducting quantitative and
qualitative data collection for field components of the HIA4SD
projects. The role is for a duration of two and a half (2.5) months from
March 2019.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Support recruitment of local level data collectors in study sites.
• Support training of local level data collectors prior to beginning data collection.
• Support community sensitization and engagement with local leaders and stakeholders in study sites
• Map data collection process, and identify study participants in respective study sites.
• Assist PhD student (local PI) in setting up interviews, finding study
participants and engaging with local leaders and community members.
• Conduct and oversee quantitative and qualitative data collection in study sites.
• Lead and oversee data entry, transcription and translation of qualitative data.
• Undertake any other tasks that the supervisor shall reasonably require from time to time.

Qualifications and Experience
•
A bachelor’s degree in Sociology, Social Sciences, Public Health,
Health Economics, Epidemiology, General Science or Environmental
Sciences.
• Up to 2 years of experience in field-based research; experiences in public health programs is preferable.
• Experience in supervising research teams, including working with data
collectors in the field, coordinating and conducting qualitative
interviews.
• Experience in transcribing interviews, and translating interviews from Swahili to English.
• Knowledge of guidelines and rules governing research involving human subjects.
Skills and Competencies
• Excellent command of both oral and written English and Kiswahili languages.
• Excellent computer software skills – Microsoft Office, Microsoft Excel and Power Point.
• Ability to work proactively and independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail, structured and well-organized.
• Willingness to travel to and live within the project region for a period of up to 2.5 months.

Position Summary
IHI is looking for Research Assistants (Data Collectors) to fill vacant positions in the HIA4SD project to assist with collecting quantitative and qualitative data for field components of the project.
Duties and Responsibilities
• Support recruitment of local level data collectors in study sites.
• Support training of local level data collectors for 2-3 days.
• Map data collection process, and identify study participants in respective study sites.
• Support community sensitization engagement with local leaders and stakeholders in study sites.
• Assist PhD student in setting up interviews, finding study participants and engaging with local leaders and stakeholders.
• Conduct and oversee quantitative and qualitative data collection in study sites.
• Lead and oversee data entry, transcription and translation of qualitative data.
• Ensure the participants’ privacy and confidentiality are maintained.
• Undertake any other tasks that the supervisor shall reasonably require from time to time.
Qualification and Experience
• Bachelor degree, preferably in related field.
Skills and Competences
• Ability to use computer for data entry.
• Ability to work under minimum supervision but also within a team.
• Good/excellent writing and verbal communication skills.
• Excellent attention to details.
