Employment gaps are always tough to explain. When a candidate is applying for a job, a large unexplained gap in their employment history can sometimes ruin their job interview. The interviewer gets this idea after reviewing your resume. When references get checked, the factors most frequently verified are dates of employment, starting and leaving salary, and educational attainment. Untruths in any of these areas are grounds for dismissal with cause. You must be ready to walk through your resume without hesitation. When asked about employment dates, don’t make any attempt to hide the gaps. Having long gaps in your work history sometimes gives employers the wrong impression about your abilities and ambitions. However, if you have 1 - 2 months gap then a gap of a few months is nothing to worry about.
So, What should be done? Before you go to the interview, try to identify a few things you gained from your time away. It’s a plus point if you can put down work as a freelancer. Include in your answer that you spent the gap volunteering, developing a new skill to increase your relevancy in the workforce. Avoid mentioning a reason like personality conflicts, poor performance, or any other reason that could make you a risky hire. It's better to include great examples like, volunteer work, freelance and consulting projects, and taking graduate, certificate or continuing education courses. Focus on showing that you've been busy and how your experience will help you be a valuable employee.

The tips you need to remember:
- Don't Tell them your life story.
- Be Confident, Positive and Honest.
- Rehearse your answers for leaving every job.
