RTI International is seeking staff for the U.S Agency for International Development (USAID) Promoting Tanzania’s Environment, Conservation, and Tourism (PROTECT) project that addresses factors in Tanzania that threaten biodiversity conservation and natural resource management. USAID PROTECT is a 5-year activity that will end in March 2020. We are recruiting a Public Private Partnership Specialist who will be based in Dar es Salaam.

PUBLIC PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP SPECIALIST- Dar es Salaam
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Specialist will help meet project objectives to strengthen private sector investment in the wildlife sector, and specifically to increase the role of the private sector in promoting biodiversity conservation and tourism and combatting wildlife crime. The focus of the PPP specialist will be to leverage private sector investments, which support conservation efforts (anti-poaching, human wildlife conflict mitigation, and anti-trafficking efforts), through USAID PROTECT support. The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Specialist will be responsible for helping to design, implement, and report on activities which meet these objectives.
The Public Private Partnership (PPP) Specialist will collaborate with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism (MNRT), Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF), Tanzania Association of Tourism Operators (TATO), and private companies, associations, foundations, tour operators and non-governmental conservation organizations to leverage private sector investment for conservation.
Key responsibilities:
Design, supervise and report on Public Private Partnerships that leverage private sector investment for conservation
- Identify new potential private sector partners that are already investing in conservation efforts, which promote biological connectivity of protected areas.
- Design partnerships between private sector partners and USAID PROTECT, which leverage private investment for conservation, and increase the area under improved management
- Procure and supervise the appropriate implementing mechanism to provide support to the private sector partner
- Monitor and report on the implementation of the partnership
Manage the on-going partnership with Tanzania Private Sector Foundation (TPSF)
- Serve as the Technical Lead for the partnership between USAID PROTECT and TPSF
- Advise TPSF and its members on private sector engagement in combatting wildlife trafficking in Tanzania
- Monitor and report on the implementation of the partnership
Project Management and Reporting
- Contribute to monthly, quarterly, and annual progress reports.
- Provide technical input in the development and implementation of work plans, monitoring of project indicators, and overall planning and implementation of project activities.
- Supervise and manage consultants, subcontractors and/or grantees as required to implement technical activities.
- Complete any other duties/activities as directed by the supervisor or the Chief of Party in line with the Project’s objectives and the Employee’s abilities.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree and 10 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience in International Development, Natural Resources Management, Business Administration, or related fields
- Minimum of 6 years technical experience in private sector engagement preferably in conservation
- Experience in developing and managing partnerships and private sector engagement strategies
- Proven ability to effectively collaborate with private sector, government entities, international donors, and non-governmental organizations.
- Demonstrated understanding of the importance of private sector engagement in conservation
- Strong report writing ability.
- Experience working on USAID or international donor projects is desirable.
- Fluency in English required.
