Research Associate Agronomy This position is funded by the BM and
Melinda Gates Foundation The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) is a not-for-profit institution that generates agricultural innovations to meet Africa's most pressing challenges of hunger, malnutrition, poverty, and natural resource degradation. Working with various partners across sub-Saharan Africa, we improve livelihoods, enhance food and nutrition security, increase employment, and preserve natural resource integrity.
IITA is a member of CGIAR, a global agriculture research partnership for a food secure future Duty Station: This is a Nationally Recruited Position and the incumbent will be based in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania

Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will among other things perform the following duties:
• Under the supervision of the Systems Agronomist, undertake project-related activities
• Implement approved on-fan and demonstration of Cassava trials
• Work with the IITA team, plan field days and training for Cassava farmers
• Supervise Agronomy Technologies activities
• Collect all relevant research and project data including experimental, pilot, survey, scaling up of decision support tools
• Write reports of field trials, training, and other farmer participatory activities carried out.
• Work with the IITA team to collate on a monthly basis progress report
• Any other duty assigned by the supervisor
Qualification
• Minimum of MSc in Agriculture with a major in agronomy, plant breeding or a related field
• At least 3 years' experience in Cassava production
Competencies:
• Excellent writing skills
• Development and use of ODK
• Ability to communicate fluently (orally and in writing) in the English language
• Ability to communicate in one or more of local major languages.
• Capacity to work effectively in a team
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Office applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and basic GIS
General information:
The initial contract for the position is for two years: renewable subject to performance and availability of funds. The duty station for the position will be IITA in Dar es salaam . This is a nationally recruited position and IITA offers a competitive remuneration package.
