The
Aga Khan Health Service, Tanzania (AKHST) an institution of The Aga
Khan Development Network, is completing a major phase II expansion of
the Aga Khan Hospital, Dar es Salaam in 2018. This expansion aims at
improving the Hospital’s quality of facilities and infrastructure to
become an ultramodern 170 bed facility in order to increase its capacity
as a provider of high-quality medical care leading to tertiary care,
referral and teaching hospital. The Phase II development is focusing on expanding key clinical services including a comprehensive cardiology programme, oncology services, and neurosciences, as well as the expansion of orthopedics and trauma, diagnostic imaging, critical care, and women and child health programmes. The Hospital is ISO and JCI Accredited (achieved a level of quality and patient service that is equal to the best hospitals in the world) and the teaching site for The Aga Khan University, which offers postgraduate medical education programs leading to Master’s of Medicine in Family Medicine, Internal Medicine and Surgery.

It is also an accredited internship site. As part of the integrated health systems approach, AKHST plans to establish 35 outreach health facilities that are located across Tanzania. Currently, 20 such clinics have been established across the country and linked the main hospital in Dar es Salaam.
We are seeking for enthusiastic and qualified experienced personnel for the following positions:
INVENTORY OFFICER -1
JOB SUMMARY
Ensure optimal Supply of a portfolio of inventory item (pharmaceutical, medical/surgical, laboratory and general store) in the fast paced hospital environment to ensure low out of stock and holding costs. Further, ensuring short dated stocks are well utilized to reduce loss of inventory.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for on time delivery in line with prevailing stock levels to ensure no out of stocks.
- Facilitate forecasting process to have stocks available for pharmaceutical, medical/surgical, laboratory and general store at minimum holding level.
- Responsible for the achievement for all the key measurable parameters in relation to stock levels and customer satisfaction.
- Identify nonmoving items and following up with the end users to assist in utilizing them or making decisions for disposal if no are not usable.
- Develop process to regularly monitor and control expired or near expiry products; both physically and in the system and inform users near expiry drugs to ensure they are utilized, moved to the high utilization areas or disposed if they cannot be used as per policy.
- Develop robust policies related to inventory and supply management
- Ensure that expired items, surplus and obsolete item are disposed as per policy.
- Coordinating quarterly and weekly perpetual stock takes as per the hospital policy.
- Conduct daily check on Store Issue Notes (SIN) from shops that need to be bridged and those from shops to warehouse and ensuring physical goods are returned as recorded in the SIN.
- Coordinate outbound and inbound material from Outreach Health Centers and Cathlab Consignments.
- Continuously improve processes within the warehouse so as to ensure smooth and safe flow of inventory.
ACADEMIC QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:
- Degree in Materials management or its equivalent.
- Two years’ experience in demand or supply role within a hospital environment.
- PSPTB, CIPS/NBMM qualification is an added advantage.
- Experience in MRP systems is an added advantage.
- Teamwork and communication skills is essential.
- Ability to work with diverse groups and commitment to advancing workplace diversity.
- Excellent communication and listening skills, inclusive of other’s views.
- Willingness to work flexible hours and assigned tasks.
- Demonstrate a positive and enthusiastic attitude at all times.
