can make a difference. The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) was
founded in 1977 by Dr. Jane Goodall, The JGI Tanzania with its partners
makes a difference through community-cantered conservation and the
innovative use of science and technology, we work closely with local
communities in Tanzania, inspiring hope through a collective power of
individual action. Majority of young people in schools and communities
are acquiring the knowledge and skills to become compassionate
conservation leaders in their own environment through the Roots &
Shoots program.The Jane Goodall Institute Tanzania (JGI-TZ) is a reputable and rapidly expanding non-governmental organization committed to wildlife research, conservation, socio-economic development and environmental education. JGI Tanzania performs its activities through its four Programs, these are Gombe-Masito-Ugalla (GMU) Program for Community Centered Ecosystem Conservation, The Gombe Stream Research Centre (GSRC) Program for Wildlife Research and Roots & Shoots (R&S) program for Youths Environmental Education.
JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant position:
Job Position: Grants Officer
Work Station: Kigoma Municipality
Reporting Line: Senior Accountant
Main responsibilities will include, but not limited to:
- Participate in developing compliance review plans with Senior Accountant and ensure they are properly implemented.
- Conduct Compliance reviews for Sub Grant to sub grantees.
- Advise Senior Accountant on the need for developing new SOP as the need arise
- Ensure all outstanding audit findings are addressed and resolved in a timely manner.
- Assess JGI-TZ partners’ risk level and assist in building capacity as needed.
- Ensure each sub grantee has available funds, within the limitations of their contract at all times.
- Ensure all Sub Grant documents for all the sub grantees (electronic and paper) are complete and organized and well filed.
- Ensure all Sub Grant information are updated and accurate for the assigned partner.
- Review and submit all monthly financial reports for each sub grantee on a monthly basis and in a timely manner.
- Monitors sub recipients’ expenditures against approved budget and program objectives and ensure that Monthly Financial Report is completed for each assigned Sub Awardee
- Ensure monthly financial report and cash book balance reconcile with sub awardees’ financial reports.
- Monitor Sub Grant expenditure against work plan on monthly basis and advise Senior Accountant accordingly.
- Ensure each Sub Grantee has an active contract at all times.
- Ensure Sub Grantees adhere to contractual and donor regulations at all times.
- Ensure the field office is in complies with Donor’s rules and regulations as well as the Organization’s policies
- Assist in Pre-Grant assessment process and ensures organizations have the capacity to appropriately manage a Sub Grant.
- Ensure each Sub Grantee has an active contract at all times.
- Ensure Sub Grantee adhere to contractual and donor regulations at all times.
- Oversees the negotiations of sub grantee agreement terms and conditions and prepares final sub agreement grant documents.
- Monitors sub recipient performance to ensure compliance with the terms and conditions of award.
- Provides on-going assistance to sub recipients to administer their sub grants and comply with all terms and conditions.
- Manages the sub agreement close out process.
- Work closely with contractual, financial and technical staff and provides guidance as necessary on sub agreement requirements.
- Ensure amendments to contract are developed and processed in a timely manner.
- Addresses problems or concerns with management of Sub Grant in a timely and effective manner.
- Grants Officer must establish and maintain systems for tracking, projecting and reporting on current active, pending and planned grant applications.
- Designing rules, policies and procedures to govern all Sub Grantees.
- Providing training on JGI-TZ’s and donor’s rules and regulations and financial management to Sub Grantees.
- Assesses Grant and Compliance policies and procedures on an on-going basis to identify and propose new policies or changes as needed, in addition to monitoring the implementation of existing Award and Compliance policies to ensure they are being properly followed.
- Provide ad hoc reports to Finance and Administration and JGI-TZ staff regarding Grant and Compliance activities in a timely and accurate manner.
- Performing any other relevant duties as assigned by the Senior Accountant.
Minimum Job Qualifications and other Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree in Accountancy, Finance or related field.
- At least 5 years working experience in grant management.
- Experience working in conservation projects is an added advantage.
- Strong skills and experience in report writing and developing proposals or concept notes.
- Demonstrated field-based experience with grants management and business development.
- Proven competency in budget development and management; including strong Excel skills.
- A team player with good coordination skills, with ability to work with minimum supervision.
