The Family Planning Advisor will provide leadership and technical support as a subject matter expert for TNC conservation initiatives in Africa. This is a 2-year fixed-term appointment with the option of extensions if funding allows. The position will be based at the TNC office in Arusha, Tanzania where the administration of one of our family planning projects is also located.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Family Planning Advisor advises conservation teams and the Africa Region on how to better integrate family planning into our conservation projects. This position will identify the top leverage points for increasing uptake of voluntary family planning services in the rural areas where we work in Africa, develop a family planning strategy for the region, and implement it. The advisor will also collaborate with other scientists and institutions to enhance knowledge about family-planning practices at TNC
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
• Support Africa Region objectives by working in a complex matrix organization environment
• Serve as the technical expert/spokesperson for family planning
• Provide technical leadership on family planning to approximately projects and staff
• Educate regional and global TNC colleagues on family planning principles
• Develop a family planning strategy for the Africa program and implement it
• Must be willing to work in variable weather conditions, remote locations, hazardous terrain, and physically demanding circumstances

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• Master’s Degree in a family planning-related field and 4 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Experience working cross culturally
• Experience working in Kenya or Tanzania
• Strong writing skill in English
• Experience presenting family planning topics to large groups in English
• Experience developing a strategy for a group or organization
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Kiswahili language skills
• Proven self-starter
• Proven ability to create and nurture partnerships with other organizations
• Key informant interviewing experience
• Staff training experience
• Experience doing stakeholder analysis
• Established relationships with academics or non-profits focused on family planning and reproductive health
