As Communications Specialist, you will lead communications and outreach for a dynamic project and partnership of organizations that are working together to promote the health of northern Tanzania’s rangelands and human communities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Communications Specialist manages and expands communications platforms of the Northern Tanzania Rangelands Initiative (NTRI) and leads communications initiatives for activities supported through the EENT project. He/she prepares written and visual communication materials, provides editorial review of technical and performance reports, and leads updates to website and social media. This is a term-limited position for the remaining duration of the 5-year USAID funding window (ending September 2020), and will report to the EENT COP. The position is based at The Nature Conservancy (TNC) office in Arusha, Tanzania.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND SCOPE
• Update and oversee implementation of the NTRI communications strategy in consultation with the NTRI Coordinator and partner organizations.
• Lead communications initiatives that directly contribute to the objectives and work plans of NTRI and the EENT project, including communications associated with a Northern Tanzania Stakeholder Forum on Healthy, Connected Rangelands for People and Wildlife
• Manage updates to the NTRI website and resource hub
• Write press releases, project summaries, fact sheets, social media posts, and other communications materials
• Edit and format technical reports, progress reports, and other written deliverables, ensuring clear and concise English language usage and professional presentation
• Supervise external consultants as necessary to successfully implement the NTRI communications strategy and communications aspects of the EENT project
• Support the preparation of learning materials that directly link to NTRI activities and highlight the collective impact of multiple partners
• Continue to develop and manage the NTRI brand in line with its partner organizations.
• Support NTRI internal communications to promote increased coordination and collaboration across the NTRI partners.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
• BS degree in Communication, Marketing, Business or related field and 3 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Demonstrated track record of writing and editing professional reports and communications materials in English
• Experience developing and managing the implementation of communications campaigns and/or strategies
• Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and web browsers.
• Experience working on development and/or environmental projects.
• Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Written and verbal proficiency in English and Kiswahili
• Experience with web-based content management systems
• Experience developing communications materials for USAID-funded programs
• Managing and prioritizing tasks from multiple source
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work cooperatively
