JGI Tanzania performs its activities through its four Programs which are Gombe-Masito-Ugalla (GMU) Program for Community Centered Ecosystem Conservation, The Gombe Stream Research Centre (GSRC) Program for Wildlife Research and Roo. & Shoo. JGI Tanzania is currently seeking to recruit suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians to fill the following vacant position:
Job Position: Program Accountant
Work Station: Kigoma Municipality
Main responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to:
- Serving as an active member of JGI Finance department and in this regard is expected to unveil high level of financial discipline in daily finance operations.
- Working closely with Aaccountant In-Charge to ensuring all payment requests are properly processed and funds are timely disbursed in support of approved activities.
- Organizing procurement and maintenance of program materials, supplies and equipment. Develop and implement program annual procurement plan with approval of the Program Director for such activities as maintenance, procurement or repair services.
- Follow up on the activities and monitor advances balance of resource disbursed, verify spending and availability of funds for program and recommend for changes in the budget line if needed.
- Perform in-depth variance analysis by comparing variance report to the program activity plan and confer advises where applicable to Accountant In-Charge and Program Director
- Prepare and submits periodic project financial reports to the Program Director and Accountant in Charge.
- Work with the Program Director and Deputy Program Director to provide an oversight on all issues related to staff performance and administration of the program activities.
- Provide support on preparation of annual and quarterly work plans and compare the same with allocated budget to ensure smooth operation of the program.
- Responsible for assets and equipment custodianship and therefore maintaining equipment logbook and conduct annual or special inventory taking, keep record and report on damages and loss of materials, tools and equipment.
- Participate in the annual Audit and develop follow up action plan and ensure the action is implemented.
- Ensure that staff performance plan is in place and annual performance appraisal is conducted and recommend for staff development where necessary.
- Manage program logistics by coordinating effective utilization of program vehicles and boa..
- Keep records for all important program documents.
- The position requires a Bachelor's degree in Accountancy and at least one year of experience working with NGO in Finance Management and Analysis.
- Holder of a CPA will be an advantage.
- Basic knowledge and practice in material management.
- Extensive financial expertise.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interface between JGI staff, local communities, local governments and other partners and decision makers, and the ability to provide clear and patient instruction.

- Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
- Fluency in Swahili and English, both verbal and written. This position involves working with a wide range of people within the institution, local communities and local and international partners, including technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Candidate must have ability to write clear and concise reports.
- Ability to take direction and work independently to deliver results.
