Job outline:
The role of the Management Accountant is to ensure that hotel expenses and revenue are in line with forecasted budgets. Management Accountant is responsible for the actual and effective administration of financial data produced daily in the hotel, focus on monitoring hotel costs and revenue and compare them to the projected budget and that the financial information is ready for the preparation of periodic financial reports.
The Management Accountant is responsible to the Chief Finance Officer and will always demonstrate the qualities expected and ensuring that the delivery of service is world class.
As such the person filling this position needs to have:
• A Minimum of bachelor degree in accounting, finance or business.
• With CPA (T) or its equivalent.
• A minimum of two years post-qualifying practical experience in accounting preferably in hospitality industry.
• Excellent processing experience with accounting software, Opera, Micros and Sun Accounting System.
• Excellent knowledge in computer with experience with Microsoft software excel.
• Familiarity with the relevant tax, labour and employee benefits legislation.
• Accuracy with strong attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills in English and Kiswahili.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Ability to be organized, systematic.
• High level of integrity.
• Good understanding of the disciplines of team work.
Duties/Responsibilities
Preparation and Management of Financial Information
Ensure that appropriate daily financial information is available to management and corporate owners and other stakeholders.
Ensure that the operating statistical information so prepared is useful tool for management to identify effectiveness and performance of each departmental manager.
Ensure that recorded financial and business activities aid into preparation of financial statements.
Ensure that financial information is prepared in an accurate manner to assist in the processing of account payable, account receivable, general ledger and financial statement.
Supervise the input and handling of financial data for the company’s automated systems.
Analyze revenue and expenditure trends and recommend appropriate budget levels, and ensure expenditure control.
Compute taxes owed and prepare tax returns, ensuring compliance with payment, reporting and other tax requirements.
Products costing and pricing.
Inventory Control
Manage and coordinate monthly, annual physical counts in all hotel outlets and departments.
Ensure that discrepancy report related to shortages, excess or breakages are well accounted for and documented.
Ensure daily material stock control procedures and that revenue reports are in line with consumption and within budget and required cost of sales.
Ensure that requested stock is in line with allocated budget and advice the right course of actions.
Monitoring and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
Budget preparation, review and auditing.
Prepare and review budget, revenue, expenses, payroll entries, invoices and other accounting documents.
Collect operational data and make analyses reports to forecast expenses and budgets.
Interact with internal and external auditors in completing audits.
Financial Reports
Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to accounts such as general ledger accounts and document business transactions.
Preparation of financial statements.
Resolve accounting discrepancies, study, and review and reconcile variances in reports and data.
Other responsibilities
To take over other accounts responsibilities in time of emergence, such as debtors, creditors accounts control, auditing and payroll activities.
Other duties as may be required by Chief Finance Officer.
