For more than 50 years, the African Wildlife Foundation (AWF) has been a key player in African conservation and sustainable development. AWF is seeking a high-performing and result-oriented female Project Assistant who will work with the project team to address gender issues and create better interaction with female community members.
The incumbent will engage women in Farmers Groups, Water User Associations and in Village Natural Resources Committees to participate in project planning and implementation of activities. Other key responsibilities include facilitating the participation of women in agriculture value chain development and restoration programs, providing support in the management of existing monitoring and evaluation (M&E), and consolidating cooperation between AWF program staff and women groups to ensure effective implementation of activities.
Key Responsibilities
-Assist program staff and involve women in data collection and analysis for both watershed and forest restoration, agricultural value chain development, and other conservation activities.
-Participate in all program activities, including preparation of workshops, inviting the participants, designing and writing the meeting/workshop/event reports while taking into consideration women involvement.
-Act as a link between AWF program staff and women groups working with Farmers Groups, Water User Associations, out growers, beekeeping groups, local government authorities, basin water board, small-scale farmers as well as extension officers.
-Facilitate the participation of women in agriculture value chain development and restoration programs.
-Provide backstopping support in the management of existing M&E including tracking deliverables and timelines.
-Consolidate cooperation between AWF program staff and women groups to ensure effective implementation of activities.
-Contribute ideas on the preparation of communication materials.
-Maintain a good image of AWF to ensure that it remains among the most respected organizations in the country and beyond.
-Assist the Project Manager to liaise with different departments, partners, consultants, and field staff to speed up delivery of required services at a given time.
-Assist the Project Manager to facilitate capacity building of the team and different stakeholders, especially women, on Climate Change Adaptation.
-Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications
-B.Sc., M.Sc. or any other university degree in a relevant field.
Must be a female.
-At least 2 years' post degree experience working with local communities.
-Direct experience of conservation work in Africa.
-Experience consulting partners and other stakeholders in project development.
-Experience working with organizational and site-level strategies as a member of diverse teams.
-Experience working with any conservation organization for at least one year.
-Demonstrable commitment to AWF's mission and understanding of issues faced by AWF in delivering its mission.
-Verified record of participating in design, managing resources and running a project.
-Acceptable level of knowledge of local laws and regulations governing conservation work in Tanzania.
-Strong written and verbal English and Kiswahili.
