National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) - Muhimbili through Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research 2 project is seeking a PhD Fellow in Public Health. The successful candidate will join the secretariat for TB node which coordinate the TB node activities of the Eastern Africa Consortium for Clinical Research 2 at NIMR – Muhimbili centre.
Academic Conditions of Award:
The successful candidate must be in possession of a Master in Public Health focusing in tuberculosis. Track record of peer-review publications, and experience working in research environment would be advantageous.
The objectives of this fellowship are to:
Enable outstanding African researchers to strengthen their competencies in research and enhance essential researcher skills that will lead to qualify the candidate for research of international standard and for other work that requires advanced scientific insight and analytical thinking.
Enhance career development and early retention of scientists in research, in and for sub-Saharan Africa
To provide a firm foundation and increase the quality, efficiency and impact of fellowship projects funded by organizations such as EDCTP
General Conditions of Award:
The applicant must be a citizen of an African country
Applicants with partial funding will be given high priority as this program will only support research costs and stipend (will not support tuition fee)
Applicants with a university registration and guarantee of payment or exemption of tuition fee will be in added advantage
The fellow will be encouraged and mentored to write and submit grant applications during the 3years tenure
The applicant will be trained to co-mentor and co-supervise MSc students as part of the capacity building
Value and tenure:
Moderate stipend will be provided on monthly basis. No benefits are included in the value of the fellowship. The fellowship is tenable for three (3) years.
