Kilimanjaro Christian Medical College is a constituent College of Tumaini University Makumira. The college is based at Moshi and owned by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania.
The college trains health professionals for various university awards in clinical and health sciences. It currently wishes to recruit a competent and committed candidate for the position of RESEARCH SCIENTIST under PAMVERC PROGRAM- KCMUCo, Moshi.
Information about PAMVERC PROGRAM
The Pan African Malaria Vector Control Research Consortium (PAMVERC), is a research partnership between London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), the National Institute for Medical Research (NIMR) and the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University Centre (KCMUCo) in Tanzania, is a research alliance that develops and evaluates new malaria vector control tools with a primary focus on IRS and LLINs. The Consortium has trial sites in Moshi (Kilimanjaro region), Muheza (Tanga region), Muleba (Kagera region), and Benin and Cote d’Ivoire (West Africa).
The Trial site in Moshi is OECD- GLP compliant and is expecting to receive requests from industrial partners to do research development evaluation studies to a GLP standard. The appointed scientist will therefore be expected to take a leading role in these studies.
Required Qualification
-Minimum Msc Degree in Medical Entomology or equivalent
-Additional specific training in relevant fields including Statistics, Research Methodology, Research Management and GLP
-Excellent communication skills in English
-At least two years research experience in relevant fields
-Good publication record
Duties and responsibilities
-Conduct and supervise GLP and Non-GLP studies on insecticides for control of malaria and other disease vectors
-Serve as a Study Director for non-GLP studies
-Supervise and co-supervise research students from KCMC and LSHTM
-Prepare research plans for research project
-Ascertain that management have committed adequate resources to perform the study, and that adequate test materials and test systems are available
-Overview study procedures and data collection to ensure procedures are being followed and compliant with SOPs
-To remain aware of progress of study at all times, by keeping effective communication with all staff involved
-Keep inventory of lab equipment’s and supplies, making sure that a stock of consumables and reagent of minimum 3 months testing
-Liaise with the procurement companies to ensure that the products to be ordered are available and up to date for the various techniques/ check if products are upgraded throughout the year and new supplies required by manufacturer for each technique
-Prepare periodic reports for sharing with sponsors and PAMVERC staff
-Prepare manuscripts for publication of complete work, in consultation with senior management staff
-Present research findings at national and international scientific meetings
Salary scale:
Salary for the post will be according to PGSS scales
